Essential Beach Oils

School is out!  Summer officially begins June 21st!  Besides hitting the beach with our swimsuit, beach towel, flip flops, sunscreen, sand toys and a cooler with refreshments, we are making sure to pack our essential oils!  Young Living Essential Oils are an amazing natural alternative to many traditional store-bought products as you may have seen in my post Spring Cleaning with Essential Oils.  If you are looking for a more chemical-free and toxin-free lifestyle, you will love these ideas for the beach or summertime!

What oils are going in the beach bag?

It is the “Swiss Army Knife” of essential oils, meaning it can be used for just about everything!  It is one of the most gentle oils included in the Premium Starter Kit.  We primarily use Lavender for skin support and relaxation.*  It is great for everyday irritations associated with being out in the sun, in the sand and in the salt water.*

This is another oil that goes just about everywhere with us.  I feel like everyday I am finding a new use for Peppermint!  We use it regularly for supporting normal digestion.*

You never know when you might need Purification!  We use it for “purifying” and cleansing the skin.*  It sometimes provides an added benefit to the skin when combined with Lavender.*

Pre-Mixed Oil Recipes

Besides the individual bottles of essential oils we are bringing to the beach, we also will be bringing our pre-mixed oil recipes!  Check them out below!

Strawberry Lemonade

Nothing like a cool refreshing beverage while sitting on the hot beach!  This is a new one I can’t wait to try!  I found this recipe directly from Young Living’s website.

Mix the following in a glass pitcher and enjoy!

  • 2 cups of pureed strawberries
  • 4 cups of distilled water
  • 1 squeezed lemon
  • 5 drops of Lemon essential oil
  • Mix well and add agave nectar or honey to taste

Water in Ear

This seems to be a regular occurence in our family, so we are going to have a mixture already prepared.

Mix the following in a 2 oz. glass oil bottle and rub around the outside of the ear every 15 minutes as needed.  Remember to NEVER drop oils inside the ear.

  • 5 drops of Purification essential oil
  • 5 drops of Melrose essential oil
  • Fill remaining bottle with a carrier oil
  • Shake well

Insect Deterrent

There’s nothing more annoying than insects when you’re trying to enjoy a beautiful day outdoors!  This is something we especially need near dusk at the beach.

Mix the following in a 4 oz. glass spray bottle and use as needed.

  • 1 oz. witch hazel
  • 30 drops of Citronella essential oil
  • Fill remaining bottle with distilled water
  • Shake well

After Sun Spray

This is a great soothing spray that also helps repair the skin from being out in the sun all day.*

Mix the following in a 4 oz. glass bottle and use as needed.

  • 25 drops of Lavender essential oil
  • Fill remaining bottle with a carrier oil
  • Shake well

My May Essential Rewards!

My Young Living May Essential Rewards order arrived!  I receive Young Living every month with this optional auto-ship program and it is amazing!  You can change it every month, schedule when it arrives and earn points for FREE product!  Click on “Essential Rewards” for more information.  This month I had a smaller order and I just needed to replenish some of our favorites.  I did order 2 new ones that I am excited to try!  Check it out below!

MAY ER '15

What are some of our favorites?

R.C., Thieves and Peppermint are essential oils we order often.  Thieves and Peppermint we typically use everyday (hence, why they are included in the “Everyday Oil” collection.)  See more of the “Everyday Oils” on my order oils page.

R.C. is perfect rubbed with a carrier oil onto the bottom of the feet or chest for respiratory support or comfort.*  We find this handy in the springtime!  What makes it so effective?  It is made up of a unique combination of oils including, Cypress, Spruce, Eucalyptus Globulus, Eucalyptus Radiata and Eucalyptus Citriodora.

Some of our favorite uses for Thieves are for immune system support and for our spring cleaning.*  Check out my blog post, “Spring Cleaning with Essential Oils.”

I’m not sure who uses Peppermint more in our house?  We love using Peppermint for supporting normal digestion.*

What new oils did I order this month?

Cypress essential oil provides comfort during season changes.*  It can be rubbed with a carrier oil onto the chest for healthy lung function.*  As you may have noticed, it is one of the oils in the  R.C. blend.  Some other uses for Cypress include:  skin support and restoring feelings of security and stability.*

Breathe Again essential oil blend has been on my list of oils to purchase for a long time and I finally ordered it this month.  You can pretty much figure out what this oil is used for by the name.  This blend of Eucalyptus Staigeriana, Eucalyptus Globulus, Eucalyptus Radiata, Eucalyptus Blue, Peppermint, Myrtle and Copaiba is specifically formulated for supporting respiratory health.*  It is  made in a convenient, ready to use roll-on for carrying on-the-go in a purse, bag or pocket.

DIY Spring Essential Oil Roll-On

Are you ready for Spring-

We are ready and preparing with our DIY Spring Essential Oil Roll-On.  I personally love this combination of oils, because of the support they can provide the sinuses and respiratory system.  This could benefit MANY people during the springtime!  But, even though this is a very common recipe, it’s important to remember what works for one may not work for another.  What is so great about essential oils is, you can tweak recipes to make them your “own,” or just find something completely different that works for you!  I definitely recommend investing in a helpful oil book if you are already using oils.  A book where you can look-up just about anything and it will give you detailed suggestions for oil use.  If you are not yet a Young Living member, I do give a FREE gift to all new enrollees ordering the Premium Starter Kit.  Please see my order oils page for more information.

Spring Essential Oil Roll-On Recipe –

springtime sinus support

Steps 1-3

Start with a dark glass bottle either one recycled from another oil or one you have purchased.  Check out my blog post Reusing Essential Oil Bottles to see how I clean and reuse my bottles.  If you are looking to purchase new bottles, Abundant Health has a large variety to choose from.

Once you have your bottle, add 30 drops of Lavender, 30 drops of Peppermint and 30 drops of Lemon Young Living Essential Oils (all are including in the Premium Starter Kit).  You can just line up the oil hole with the bottle or use a glass dropper to be more precise.

Step 4

After you’ve added all 3 essential oils, top off the rest of the bottle with a “carrier oil” or “seed oil” of your choice.  My family uses Young Living’s V-6 Vegetable Oil Complex.  This is made with Coconut, Sesame, Grape, Sweet Almond, Wheat, Sunflower and Olive oils.  It blends into the skin really well without leaving an oily residue and won’t clog pores.  It also won’t stain clothes or fabrics, which is a huge PLUS!  If you do not have V-6, you can use another seed oil such as, Coconut, Sesame, Jojoba, Almond, etc.

Step 6

Lastly, after the essential oils and V-6 or other carrier oil is added, then put your roller fitment onto the bottle with the cap.  I prefer using Young Living’s AromaGlide Roller Fitments, because they are made of metal.  Many roller-balls are made of plastic, which is not safe to use with citrus oils, because they can actually erode the plastic.  Once the roller and cap is on, you can shake the bottle lightly or roll it between your hands to mix the oils up throughly.  After you are done, add a label!

Ready to use!

We use this roll-on on the back of our necks, wrists or on our Vita-Flex points on the bottom of our feet.  We love the convenience of this bottle too.  It can very easily fit in a purse, bag or even pocket!

Other Options for Spring Sinus and Respiratory Support

  • Add several drops of oil to a cotton ball and place it near an air vent
