How Do I Store My Essential Oils?

If you are a Pinterest user and you search, “essential oil storage,” you will find an overwhelming plethora of wonderful options!  Once you start becoming more savvy with oils, your collection will grow exponentially (I can definitely vouch for that)!  As I started on my way to a great collection, I knew it was time to figure out a place to keep them.  I was excited to figure out an organization system for my oils that was easily accessible, yet out of the reach of little hands.  And besides wanting to be organized, I knew I wanted something creative and unique too.

First Things First

Your Young Living Essential Oils are an investment you want to protect!  By storing them properly they will maintain their therapeutic-grade properties for many years to come.  Keep in mind these simple, but very important guidelines:

  • Keep your oils out of the reach of curious little hands
  • Keep your oils in room temperature (I personally wouldn’t recommend storing them in a bathroom if it frequently becomes humid)
  • Keep your oils away from direct sunlight (do not store your oils on or near a window sill )
  • Do not store your oils near anything flammable (stoves, candles, etc.)

Some Small Storage Solutions

When I first purchased my Premium Starter Kit, I thought it would be easier to keep my oils in a travel case or bag.  Since I had the everyday oils collection from the kit, I knew it would be beneficial to keep these oils with me at all times.  I liked the idea of having them in one place in the house and a place I could just grab them for on-the-go.  The travel case was also nice, because I could just zip them up and easily place them out of reach from my small children.  At the time, I didn’t think to check out Young Living’s options for travel cases, so instead I ended up purchasing one from Amazon.  Below are some pictures of Young Living’s case options. Contact me with any questions or if you would like to order a travel case!  Remember once you order a Premium Starter Kit, you will have wholesale prices from that point on!

Here is a Young Living travel case that you can buy to fit either 16 or 30 5 ml bottles of essential oil.

Here is another Young Living travel case option. This case is for storing or transporting 130 5 ml bottles of essential oil safely.  I believe it is primarily used by distributors who are hosting a Young Living class.

Below is a picture of the case I purchased from Amazon. This case fits up to 30 bottles of oil in the 5 ml and 15 ml size.  Even though I have a different storage solution for my oils now, I still use this case for traveling.  You can find cases similar to this at Abundant Health.  This company is a great resource for purchasing essential oil accessories and literature.

My Current Storage Solution

I was so excited to share this with you!  I just LOVE my new organizational storage solution for my essential oils!  Let me start by explaining my first picture below.  I have been wanting a simple vanity or desk  for awhile, where I can do some work without distraction.  I just LOVE this space!  What do you think??

The desk and lamp were purchased from my favorite store – Target.  The chair was a great clearance find at World Market.  The mirror is from At Home (formerly Garden Ridge).  The chevron vase was a Christmas gift from Crate and Barrel. Last, but not least is the white drawer unit I purchased from IKEA.

I wanted a simple yet organized storage solution for my family’s essential oils.  I’ve seen so many great ways of displaying them on your walls in your home on Pinterest, but I did not have a whole lot of wall space, so I thought this would be perfect!  What is so great about this is, I use it for our oils, extra bottles and accessories and even our essential oil literature.  Everything fits so nicely and perfectly and it’s all in ONE place!

If you have the room space, I would definitely recommend this unit. It comes in 2 sizes too! You can either get this one, which has 9 drawers or they have a shorter one with 5 drawers.  It really could be used for so many things!  The last time I was in IKEA, I noticed they had new colors too!  Now you can purchase this in white, gray, black-brown and even light green.

Let’s take a look inside………

The top 3 drawers I use for our essential oils.  I just recently received the bottle cap labels in my July Essential Reward’s order.  I was very excited to receive these, because as you can see it makes finding the oils much easier.

When I first purchased the drawer unit, I just had drawer liners inside, but it wasn’t enough to keep the oil bottles standing up every time I opened and closed the drawers.  My husband was shopping at Target (I told you it was our favorite store) and found these perfect utensil drawer organizers for the oil bottles to sit in.

They work great!  You can see how nicely the oils fit inside.  The rubber at the bottom works to grip the bottles, so they do not fall over.  There may even be a better solution out there for this, but it works great for us!

I hope this blog post was helpful!  Like I said, if you search on Pinterest, you’ll find lots of neat ideas. Etsy even sells some great oil storage shelves, cabinets, bags, etc.

If you have any questions at all, please do not hesitate to contact me at any time.  I would love to hear from you!  I would even love to see or hear about your essential oil storage solution!  Share with me here or on my Facebook.  I look forward to it!
